The Alutek system provides aluminium hulled craft with an automatic, finely controlled ICCP system to prevent corrosion.
Aluminium is generally regarded as a stable material which does not corrode easily. However, when it used in conjunction with other metals such as bronze propellers and steel components, serious problems of hull corrosion can arise.
Until now, sacrificial anodes have been used as a remedy, but these need to be renewed at regular intervals and have the disadvantage of adding weight and 'drag' to the craft.
