Latest News Press Release – September 2009 World’s first Marine Covert Satellite tracking system PearTrack in conjunction with Cathelco will launch the world’s first self contained marine GPS tracking system with a 10 year battery life at METS 2009 (Hall 3 Stand 221) which is being held in Amsterdam, 17th -19th of November. Insurance companies are reporting a massive increase in maritime theft ranging from small pleasure craft such as Jet skis to large yachts and recently the piracy of commercial vessels. The PT-1000 can be easily concealed on a vessel, needing no external power supply or maintenance, and is able to send multiple position reports every day for up to 10 years. The unit is fitted with a movement sensor, so when the boat is moved the device will wake up and send frequent position reports. The system also has a capability to send an alert message when the vessel is moved out of its geo fence, this can be set around its home port or the visiting marina and could even be used as an anchor watch. The system uses the Global Positioning System GPS to locate the vessel and then transmits the location information using the Global System for Mobile communication (GSM). Most pleasure craft never venture far from GSM coverage, however if the boat goes out of GSM range, when it returns to port or within 25 kilometers from a shore with GSM coverage, the unit will log on to a network and send its position. PearTrack will launch a dual GSM/Satellite signaling system in 2010 for deep sea tracking where there is no GSM coverage. The alerts are sent by the web-based system via e-mail and Short Messaging Service (SMS) to the owner’s mobile phone. The user can then view the position of the vessel and the nature of the alert from their PC. PearTrack offers a complete range of battery powered GPS tracking products, from the 10 year PT-1000 to a small personal match box size product the PT-30 that can be carried by crew.
